In 2006 the Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority formed a local Design Team comprised of Ratio Architects, serving as the Lead Architect, in conjunction with Domain Architects and Blackburn Architects, serving as Associate Architects, to design the Phase V Expansion to the Indiana Convention Center.

In developing the program it was determined that an addition consisting of 250,000 SF of exhibition space, 63,000 SF of meeting room space and approximately 320,000 SF of prefunction, support and administrative spaces were needed to strengthen the center’s competitiveness in relation to other convention sites, enhance the image of the facility and market appeal and improve upon the facility’s current functional relationships.
A project that Blackburn Architects is currently completing in the category of New Elementary School work is Christian Park Elementary School No. 82 for Indianapolis Public Schools.  It is located at 4700 English Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana.  Community Meetings were held by IPS, Schmidt Associates, and Blackburn to gather the community’s input on the design of the building.  Our proposed design team for M.S.D. of Pike Township of Blackburn Architects, Lynch Harrison & Brumleve, and R.E. Dimond were also involved on this project.  The project includes:  30 classrooms, a new cafeteria, serving kitchen, gymnasium, a renovated and enlarged administrative office area and media center, all built in three phases. The three-story brick and stone addition’s architecture compliments the existing building that is on the Indiana Register of Historic Landmarks.

Blackburn Architects has joined with Flad & Associates, Affiliated Engineers, and The Olde McGuire & Shook Corporation to design a new Multidisciplinary Science Building for Indiana University’s Main Campus, located in Bloomington, Indiana.  This new facility will house labs and office space for research in the fields of Neuroscience, Biogeochemical, and Atmospheric Science.  Blackburn Architects’ role for this project consists of interior design and interior space planning.

The new 120,000 square foot structure will be located on the northern edge of campus along Walnut Grove, north of 10th Street.  It will be the third building in the new science district, which currently includes the Geology and Psychology buildings.  The facility’s lab spaces are being designed to accommodate the need of flexibility for differing research groups.  Along with the lab spaces, which make up approximately 2/3 of the building, the facility also houses offices for Faculty, Post Doctorate Students, Graduate Students, and Private Investigators.  The project is slated to begin construction in the summer of 2006.
