The new home of the Indiana Pacers and the Indiana Fever was designed and built to
both represent the deep history of basketball in Indiana, and make the best possible
experience for the fans that attend events at Conseco Fieldhouse. The professional
sports and entertainment facility is the first retro themed arena in the NBA. Conseco
Fieldhouse offers the city of Indianapolis a state-of-the-art venue for basketball,
ice hockey, and concerts, helping to bring Indianapolis, again, to the forefront
of urban development.
The box office and Virginia Avenue pedestrian bridge, designed by Blackburn Architects,
along with the entry pavilion provide fans with their initial impression of Conseco
Fieldhouse. The successful use of materials, such as brick, metal, and glass, combined
with architectural detailing emulating the curved structure within the arena, introduce
the retro theme prevalent throughout the entire facility.
In addition to offering visitors the “ultimate fan experience”, Conseco Fieldhouse
houses a state-of-the-art training facility. While maintaining the retro feel, the
training facility provides such amenities as cardio-vascular weight training and
hydrotherapy rooms and an indoor practice facility. Home team locker rooms provide
custom maple lockers and video capabilities for detailed coach and team review sessions.
An adjacent lounge, reminiscent of distinguished athletic clubs from yester year,
offers players a place to relax and dine before and after games.
The Indiana Pacers’ team colors are the foundation for color schemes implemented
in training and administrative areas. Great care was taken to select materials that
match uniform, product, and memorabilia colors. Deep indigo blue carpeting and warm
golden maple are a few of the finishes that provide a backdrop for items found throughout
The administrative staff, numbering over 100 people, works to promote and sustain
the facility and sports organizations. Blackburn Architects aided the Pacers Sports
and Entertainment family in creating an image that conveys their roots within the
entertainment industry. Maple floors, trim, and casework installed on the Lower
Suite Level echo maple used throughout the facility. Brick was installed in select
areas to give a “renovated older building” look to a brand new facility. Windows
were incorporated in all office doors, giving entrances a retro feel. Contemporary
furnishings and jazzy upholstery fabrics play up the fun, entertainment feel that
the organization wants to convey. Higher ceilings in select areas and indirect lighting
provide all employees with well-lit workspaces.
The main lobby located on the Lower Suite Level serves to greet guests visiting the
suites and administrative offices. Showcased in the lobby is a custom desk, which
utilizes building materials, maple, aluminum and stone, installed in a contemporary
fashion. Adjacent to the lobby is the Founders Pavilion. The pavilion acts as a
gathering space for special functions and as a showcase for franchise artifacts and
commemorative Pacers Foundation plaques.
